Home Screen

I'm looking into different backgrounds for my home screen and have found a few ideas for things I want to play around with although I'm unsure which software will allow me to merge a video background with gif overlaying it. For now however I'll worry about the design element rather than production.

Jellyfish I've found are a perfect combination of lava lamp style aesthetics with their movement and I love the vibrancy of these videos as well as the slow movement through the water which for many people, the sea is a very calming place hence why one of my happy places is set there. Perhaps I could also include some other backgrounds relating to my happy places, although I don't want too many different possible videos for the background of the home screen maybe 3/4.

It may be better then to separate these visuals in fact, as I want the home screen to look as trendy as possible which would be more easily achieved by using backgrounds not from nature but patterns, the use of mandalas I feel would be very suited, as unfortunately mainstream culture has watered down their importance, I want to try make them less of a fashion piece for the sake of their aesthetic, but bring back their importance as they're situated where it is contextually relevant. As this spiritual symbol from Hindu and Buddhist culture represents the universe, it's a microcosm of the universe and can be an aid to understanding spirituality.

Continuos visual videos I've been researching have some perfectly calming results. After some feedback I found After Effects may be the software I need in order to have my video and gif layered. I'm unsure if I'll be able to transfer this into Adobe XD however, but I think as long as I have the homepage visuals made alongside the stills taken from this on XD this will be okay.

After Effects

I've found this really beautiful youtube channel called Ed's light shows which (as featured in the second image above) uses liquid oil projections to achieve stunning soothing visual effects.

I've started playing around in after effects layering my gif over video but after feedback it became clear that this was actually too much visually stimulating and chaotic, it didn't make sense for some much movement and could be quite stressful to look at while the app is loading. It makes more sense to have a gif over the still imagery or keep the moving backgrounds and have the logo stationary.
