Joe Blaker Guest Talk on Sketchbooks

We looked at a range of sketchbooks over 13 years of Joe Blaker's profession

Consider:
who are you?
what do you care about?

Do observational drawings and be observant, look out for:
lines
colours
textures

Take photographs; once you start looking for inspiration, you find it easier and can spot things relevant to you all the time.

Collect photos, drawings, other artists work. Your sketchbook doesn't necessarily have to be linear.
Often if you're stuck, using a new material or medium may help. The image may only form as you draw, you may not be aware of the concept initially.
Try avoid constantly working on your computer, however creating imagery digitally remains a form of drawing so shouldn't be ruled out. Try to do a drawing every single day, to make this easier you can loosen up using drawing games such as using pens between each finger, continuous line drawings as well as timed drawings.

Joe told us to look at Elanor Taylor for inspiration in terms of digital art as this should also not be neglected.
