Jean- Michel Basquiat
Basquiat's journal I found inspiring for my project as his informal off the cuff style of diary style documentation contains a random collection of thoughts, imaginations and analysis of social situations. I feel this is relevant to my diary style 'people watching' publication and makes me want to include more hand written/ drawn imagery like I did with the imagery my plane journey featured.
Patricia Grullon
I absolutely love Grullon's illustration based journal and her documentation of her own state of mental health. She draws or paints using photographs as she finds it hard to draw from memory, however her writings are clearly more personal and relevant to the imagery, colours and format. Her use of collage I want to incorporate into my own work however I cannot draw as accurately as her, also because this is more of a personal publication it's bound to be more vague in terms of message.
